Adopting a child is, in my opinion, one of the best things a parent can choose to do. Stepping up to provide a child a healthy environment within which he or she may thrive is truly admirable. However, it is procedurally complicated, especially if the adoption is over the biological parents’ objection. Colorado law provides mechanisms which allow a non-biological parent to adopt children. Several criminal background checks are required and all the “i’s” must be dotted and “t’s” crossed prior to a Court allowing an adoption to proceed.
